Sjögren's Syndrome Genetic Studies - FAQ

What does Participation in the Sjögren's Syndrome Genetics Study involve?

Individuals enrolled in the study are asked to:

  • Complete a health history questionnaire.
  • Provide a small sample of blood and saliva.
  • Authorize researchers to collect medical records of Sjögren's Syndrome patients that relate to their diagnoses and treatment.

Who is Eligible for the Study?

Individuals who have been diagnosed with Sjögren's Syndrome and meet the new International criteria for classification of Sjögren's Syndrome. Parents and other family members (usually siblings) of enrolled Sjögren's Syndrome patients. Healthy friends of enrolled Sjögren's Syndrome patients who are of similar age, ethnicity, and gender with no history of autoimmune disease.

Who is conducting this study?

Researchers at the University of Minnesota with expertise in multiple areas including Oral Medicine, Rheumatology, Autoimmunity and Genetics.

Is Participation Free?

Yes! In fact, all individuals who complete enrollment in the study will receive $25.

Confidentiality

As required by the Privacy Act, all information is kept strictly confidential.
